T.A  Poomsae Seminars

We are excited to announce that Grand Master Kyung Chan Kim is coming to Australia to run two unique Poomsae training seminars.
His previous two visits to Australia were extremely successful with participants gaining advanced teaching and development skills
and a depth of understanding of the current competition rules and techniques.

The program will comprise of a two day Instructors/Coaches seminar from 12-13 April 2014, as well as a three day athletes’ seminar
from 15-17 April 2014. We have selected the AIS in Canberra as a centralised training venue to enable a residential training program
in Australia’s bastion of sport.

The planning for these events have been underway for sometime with the intention that in the spirit of unification, both events are
also open to STA members. We expect that all future events will be run jointly and we look forward to bringing all athletes, coaches
and instructors together now, and in the future.

Taekwondo Merger Process Update

Monday, February 24th, 2014

Whilst there have been unforseen delays in the merging of Sports Taekwondo Australia (STA) and Taekwondo Australia Ltd (TA), the merge is still proceeding. Both STA and TA remain committed to working together to provide opportunities for all members.

In the coming days, the parties expect to finalise a variation to the Heads of Agreement, which will resolve some of the current issues and provide an agreed way forward to a merged national body.

Arrangements have already been made to ensure all athletes who have qualified for the World Youth Championships will be eligible to compete as members of the Australian Team.

Similarly, arrangement have been made so all athletes wishing to attend the US Open will be eligible to compete.  STA has facilitated Global Athlete Licence access for these athletes pursuant to an agreement with the Australian Sports Commission (ASC).

The ASC and World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) will continue to provide support to STA and TA to ensure all athletes will continue to have access to WTF-sanctioned and international open events through the transition period until the merger comes into effect.

It is expected the merged body will be in full operation by the end of March 2014, with the nominated directors of both bodies meeting jointly on a regular basis until this time.

In the interim STA and TA encourage all state organisations to begin (or resume) discussions with their state counterparts about their own mergers.  A working group consisting of representatives from STA, TA and the Australian Sports Commission has been formed to coordinate WTF, National and State events, seminars and workshops. States will be contacted within the next week to discuss their calendars.

In regard to the nomination process for the Youth Olympic Games, this will be overseen by both parties and the Australian Institute of Sport and submitted to the Australian Olympic Committee.

As the process continues there will be further announcements. For more information please contact your relevant organisation.
