Taekwondo Australia and Sports Taekwondo Australia

Friday, November 29th, 2013

This is a brief note to keep you abreast of the merger position between Taekwondo Australia and Sports Taekwondo Australia (STA) and also provide a ‘heads up’ on the membership rates that the parties have agreed to.

On 28 October we met with  the WTF, ASC and STA to finalise the Heads Of Agreement which has subsequently signed by all parties and an executed copy made available to your state executive. Unfortunately this document remains confidential to your executive. In addition, with the assistance of the ASC, we have also finalised the constitution of the new organisation and a copy has been provided to your state executive which should have been circulated to all state instructors. On 17 November the STA SGM passed a resolution to adopt the new constitution.

You are no doubt aware that TA will be holding its Special General Meeting on 21 December 2013, where the State Delegates will cast their state’s vote to merge with STA, and adopt the constitution mentioned above. We have also been in discussions with the states and are organising with them for the Australian Sports Commission to visit states, along with a TA representative, to provide information on the merger at a national and state level, and to address questions. These ‘road shows’ are being held separately for TA and STA organisations in each state.

In the meantime, there is much work going on in the background, including both organisations conducting a Due Diligence process on each other, and in the past two weeks we also attained insurance quotes for the new merged organisation and yesterday after many discussions with STA and the WTF, we finalised the membership rates for 2014. Information on the membership packages and how members will be transferred to the new organisation will be detailed in an information package which we anticipate delivering to you next week.

Regards

John Gradisar
Chief Executive Officer T.A

Australia Implements Global Athlete Licence (GAL)

Thursday, November 21st, 2013

Australia has been at the forefront of the WTF’s GMS and GAL initiatives and to further the implementation of this global initiative, and will be the first country to make the GAL mandatory for all its state, regional and national competitions.

From 1st January 2014, all athletes competing is state and national competitions in Australia will be required to have the WTF Global Athlete Licence (GAL).

Australia has been at the forefront of the WTF’s GMS and GAL initiatives and to further the implementation of this global initiative, Australia will be the first country to make the GAL mandatory for all its state, regional and national competitions.

STA’s President, John Kotsifas stated,

“We have been assisting the WTF in the development of the Global Membership System for a number of years now. We were the first country to fully implement the GMS as our own national membership system so as to provide our members with a comprehensive and revolutionary membership system developed by the WTF. To further our partnership with the WTF, we have now decided to make the Global Athlete licence mandatory for all competitions in Australia from 1st January 2014. This means, that all athletes irrespective of age and belt rank, will be required to have the GAL in order to compete as an athlete in Australia. Further, all Coaches, judges and officials will also be required to have the Global licence in order to officiate and coach at any Australian competition.

Australia will again be the first country to implement this requirement and we will work closely with the WTF to provide valuable feedback of this important initiative that will be implemented in 2014.

Consequently, in Australia, all ordinary members of STA will hold WTF GMS membership, all athletes competing domestically will hold the WTF GAL and all officials, coaches and judges participating at any domestic events will be required to hold a WTF global licence.

These are all important developments for our sport in Australia and our desire to link our domestic activities to the WTF global membership system and to further develop our relationship with the WTF
