Fight for Life Seminar

Tuesday, October 30th, 2012

Hello fellow instructors and students, As I hope you all realise, we are quickly approaching the date for the seminar. What you do not know is that the registrations for the seminar are much lower than anticipated. Due to the high overheads in running a seminar of this magnitude we need to have a good participation rate so we can have a good return for the Cancer Council. If each instructor is able to manage 3-5 members to come along that will push us over the line. This year it is proving to be surprisingly difficult to get the numbers in the door. The cost is the same as two years ago and we have a great bunch of instructors but the numbers are not great… I have stretched my resources to the limit so I now need to call upon your help to make this the success it deserves to be. We are all donating our time and effort because we are doing something we believe in. Please talk to your students and get them motivated, it is a great experience for everyone. I cannot make an event of this magnitude a success on my own. I have spoken with a few instructors and they have been a great support but now we need to ask everyone to lend a hand. So if you can just bring just 3-5 students along it will make a huge difference to the outcome. The earlybird has been extended to 4th November so we need to act quickly if we want to motivate students with a reduced entry cost. A quote that I feel is apt for this situation, “Alone we can achieve very little but together we can achieve great things”. This is not MY seminar, it is OUR seminar and WE are raising money for CANCER RESEARCH. Please, talk to your students again and lets see if we can make a difference. Warm Regards, Kevin ello fellow instructors, As I hope you all realise, we are quickly approaching the date for the seminar. FIGHT FOR LIFE TIME TABLE

Earlybird extension Because we have delayed the instructor list announcement we have decided to extend the earlybird sale until midnight Sunday, 4th November.
Special program for people with NO martial art experience but want to “give it a go” These special sessions will give the participants some history of each art, explain how that art works and teach some basic techniques. This is a great opportunity for anyone not sure what martial art they would like to learn. Be quick to register for this special program as places are limited!
Instructor list for the seminar has been finalised I’m still waiting on some seminar details but the list is final. When making your instructor selections please ensure you follow the instructions at the top of the page.
Updated dinner information I have included updated information on the dinner. It will be a fun night out with great entertainment.
How can I help?

  • Come along to the seminarMeet new friends and have a great time.
  • Come to the dinnerYou do not have to be involved in martial art to come along and have a good time. It is a large venue so there is plenty of room for everyone. Get your friends together and book a table of 10.
  • Become a sponsor Do you have some goods/services that we can sell at the charity auction? This is a great way to contribute. As a thank you we will post your donation onto the “Sponsors/Donors” page on the “Fight for Life” website. http://ffl-2012.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=85&Itemid=135
  • Purchase a T-ShirtSupport the “Fight for Life” by purchasing an official FFL T-Shirt
  • Have your own fund-raiser Invite your dojo/workplace/friends to help raise money for cancer research by having a collection or fund-raiser and donate to the “Fight for Life” cause.

Another great way you can help is to pass this email to all of your friends and post the information to Facebook and Twitter.

Let’s kick cancer in the…..

Warm Regards, Kevin Walsh www.ffl-2012.org

2012 October Grading

Monday, October 8th, 2012

Even though it was quite a cold day our October Grading turn out to be very exciting  as we gained two new 3rd Poom members plus one new 1st Poom member.
Rachel McIntosh (Goldielox) and Sachin Pathmaperuma were prompted to 3rd Poom whilst 9 year old Sharell CS Komala was promoted to 1st Poom after training and competing for 4 years. At the recent National/Festival Championships Sharell family won a total of 21 medals which included 13 Gold.
I would like to thank Joyce Stivala who did a great job organising and Grading the White and Yellow belts students.
A big thank you to all the Parents and Friends for their support.

Sachin after completing his 3rd Poom Grading.

2012 Taekwondo Australia’s Championships

Monday, October 1st, 2012

Some of the very successful Koryo Team showing off their medals.
Well by now our Team members and families should have all arrived home safely from Sydney after spending up to four days competing in the 2012 National Taekwondo Championship and the 2012 Australian Taekwondo Festival.
I could not be any more prouder of the Koryo team as they gave an outstanding performance in both the Technical and Sparring events.
The final medal count is not available at the moment, however, up to date our team has won 141 medals, 64 Gold, 42 Silver, 27 Bronze and 8 Copper.
I would like to thank all the Families and friends of our competitors for their support, as without them our team would have not have been so successful.
Additional information and final medal count will be available over the next few days.
