2012 Korean Open Team Invitation

large-image Taekwondo Australia has received an invitation, from the Korean Taekwondo Association to send a team to the 2012 Korean Open which will be held between 25-30 October 2012 in Gyungju, Korea.

We will be taking a team of Poomsae and Sparring athletes with appropriate TAPS funding being announced soon. Poomsae athletes will be advised of funding based on results of the Hanmadang and Korean Open Selections held on 3 June 2012, while Sparring athletes will be advised based on current accrued TAPS points.

As with all our teams, all members are welcomed to join the team with the same teamware (dobok, polo and tracksuit) available for purchase at discounted rates through Taekwondo Australia’s major sponsor, JOLS.
Refer T.A enews for full details.

2013 US Open Team Invitation

large-image Taekwondo Australia has received an invitation, from USA Taekwondo to send a team to the 2013 US Open Taekwondo Championships, which will be held between 19-23 February 2013 at the Las Vegas Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas.

We will be taking a team of Poomsae and Sparring athletes along the same lines as our highly successful 2012 US Open Team which comprised almost 100 athletes and support staff, including doctor, physio and sports psychologist. TAPS funding will be announced in the coming months but it is expected to be similar to this year’s Gold, Silver and Bronze support. It is therefore important that athletes perform well at national and state TAPS events to improve their funding support levels.

As was the case this year, all members are welcomed to join the team with the same teamware (dobok, polo and tracksuit) available for purchase at discounted rates through Taekwondo Australia’s major sponsor, JOLS.
Refer T.A enews for full details.

Fight for Life

Sunday, September 23rd, 2012

Kevin Walsh is conducting a martial art event (Fight for Life) to raise money and awareness for Cancer Research. Like many people, I recently lost a dear friend to this terrible disease. Cancer has a yearly death toll of over 7 million people with millions more in various stages of cancer undergoing treatment. In the context of Australia, we would lose about 1/3 of our population – EVERY YEAR. So, in 3 years that equates to the entire population of Australia wiped out!! That is massive…..
With statistics like this, there is little wonder why very few people on the planet have not lost a loved one or friend to cancer. The only way this disease can be eliminated is by pouring money into research. We can talk about cancer and be sad for those that have left us but only action can prevent more senseless deaths.
This is your opportunity to help fight back. The research we fund through the Cancer Council may lead to the relief of suffering for millions. Maybe even for your future self, family or friends.

How can you help?

  • Come along and participate in the martial art seminars. If you are a martial artist of any level just jump right in and enjoy yourself. Never tried a martial art before? No problem. You can participate to whatever level you are comfortable with. Try a little or watch.
Please refer to the brochure which is available from the side bar.
Koryo Instructors Joyce Stivala 4th Dan and Russell Wood 8th Dan will be running some of the Taekwondo session.
