Re: Decision of PSS supplier for London 2012 Olympic Games Taekwondo Competition

Dear Colleagues,

This has been a long-awaited decision on which PSS Company will be used at London 2012 Olympic Games, and we much regret that it has taken so long to reach the final decision on the choice of PSS supplier for London 2012 Olympic Games Taekwondo Competitions.
Unlike the procedure for selecting equipment for WTF-promoted championships, equipment suppliers for the Olympic Games are nominated by the Organizing Committee from among IF-recognized companies, as stipulated in the rules of the IOC for the Olympic Games.
Swiss Timing, the responsible company contracted by the London Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games (LOCOG) for centralized games information and scoring of taekwondo competition at the London 2012 Olympic Games, has independently evaluated two potential PSS suppliers recognized by the WTF, LaJust and Daedo, to determine which is more suitable and reliable for working in a Swiss Timing environment at the London 2012 Olympic Games Taekwondo competition.
According to its report, the areas analyzed by Swiss Timing were data architecture, PSS interface with Swiss Timing, Protocol exchange with Swiss Timing, PSS management, technical modification and solution required and estimated collaboration quality with Swiss Timing prior of the London Test Event. All these are key aspects in successful operation of scoring system at London 2012 Olympic Games.
Based on intensive analysis and research, including observation of LaJust at the 2011 WTF World Taekwondo Championships Gyeongju, Swiss Timing has informed the WTF that it has selected Daedo as a PSS supplier for London 2012 Olympic Games taekwondo competition.
Accordingly, the WTF is giving this notice to our member national associations for their due reference and preparations for the London 2012 Olympic Games. In addition, the WTF hereby confirms that Daedo will be used at all Qualification Tournaments for London 2012 Olympic Games to ensure all qualification tournaments take place with consistency under same conditions as the London 2012 Olympic Games. Meanwhile, LaJust still maintains its status as a WTF-recognized PSS company eligible to be used at the other events in the WTF Events Calendar other than the London 2012 Olympic Games and related Qualification Tournaments.

I thank you in advance for your continued support and collaboration for our continued endeavors to best stage competitions of our beloved sport in the Olympic Games.

Sincerely yours,
Jin Suk Yang
Secretary General

Re: Outline of WTF World Qualification Tournament for London 2012 Olympic Games

Dear Colleagues,

It is a great pleasure to extend an invitation to your national association to participate in the WTF World Taekwondo Qualification Tournament for London 2012 Olympic Games which will take place on June 30 – July 3, 2011 in Baku, Azerbaijan. I hereby send you the outline of this tournament which contains critical information for your preparations.

As you would recall, the past three editions of the Olympic Games have served as turning points to the sport of taekwondo for further improvements in various areas. We have truly made significant progress since the last Olympic Games, and I have no doubt that we would have more exciting and fairer qualification tournament for London Olympic Games than the past Olympic Qualification tournaments.

A total of twenty four (24) places will be awarded to NOCs through this tournament, which means that the top three (3) contestants ranking 1st through 3rd in each weight division will qualify their NOCs places for 2012 Olympic Games.

The World Taekwondo Federation and the Organizing Committee will do its utmost for the successful organization of the tournament. I anticipate active participation of the WTF member national associations in this tournament and look forward to seeing you all in Baku.

Sincerely yours,

Chungwon Choue
President

OTU Coach Accreditation

Friday, May 6th, 2011

We have received the following advice from STA in regard to the OTU coach accreditation for coaches wishing to participate in the WQT Preliminary Event on the Gold Coast on Saturday, 14 May 2011.

STA does not wish to exclude any athlete or their coach for the upcoming selection event scheduled for 14th May on the Gold Coast, QLD.

It is imperative that Coaches are appropriately accredited and consequently we have advised the AOC (and we will post a web notice to this effect) that coaches will need to complete their OTU coaching accreditation applications and submit these to STA, but in recognition of the short time they have to do this, they will be provided with temporary Coaching accreditation for the selection event enabling them to coach their athletes on the day.

No one will be excluded and their coaching accreditation will be mailed to them after the selection event once their applications have been processed.

If you have submitted your TA Coaching Card as previously advised, please note that you will still need to comply with the above.

Please ensure that you compete the appropriate forms and submit them via Express Post today to ensure that they arrive by Monday’s deadline.
